Double cleansing is a simple yet very fancy way of saying if you’re wearing makeup or SPF you need to clean your skin twice: once to remove the makeup/SPF and once to rid the skin of daily impurities (grime, dirt, pollution and the like). Sounds simple enough and it is with the Kaplan MD Double-Cleansing Kit. It includes all the basic necessities required to properly double cleanse, everything neatly packed in one beautiful cosmetic case!
First Cleanse
The Kaplan MD Hydrating Milk Cleanser is a great first cleanse option, effectively removing makeup and/or SPF. It is formulated with 22 Organic Extracts to soothe and nourish the skin, along with Panthenol and collagen boosting Soy Isoflavones to pamper the skin with anti-aging benefits while you cleanse. This ultra-hydrating creamy cleanser is also infused with a potent concoction of plant stem cells (Alp Rose Stem Cell, Gamay Grape Stem Cell, and Swiss Apple Stem Cell) to help increase the skin vitality, protect against environmental stress, and regenerate new collagen. It has soothing Chamomile and Lactic Acid. I like that it’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, castor oil, petroleum jelly, and BPA packaging, all big ticket items in my skincare buying book. The Hydrating Milk Cleanser is really simple to use: 3-4 pumps and massage that into the skin, then rinse off with water or use one of the cleansing sponges included with the kit. The sponges are a great addition to a first cleanse, as they work to loosen clogged pores and dirt. Simply run the sponge under luke-warm water and use it the same way you would a muslin cloth or flannel, but the sponge is gentler and works better on sensitive skins. There are 2 non-latex, PVA sponges included in the kit and each sponge will typically be good for about 2-3 months. Definitely make sure to rinse them well after each use and inspect often (similarly to the way you care for a Beauty Blender).
The cleansing milk is not runny or sticky and leaves my face feeling smooth, calm and makeup-free.
Taking the First Cleanse Up a Notch
Now there are those inevitable days when my skin feels lifeless and looks dull. I used to think it needed a miracle, but through years of trial and even more error, I’ve found that a boost of hydration usually does the trick. On those days I make sure I up my intake of water (water is life!) and infuse my milk cleanser with a few drops of the Kaplan MD Hydrating Essence, an ultra-luxurious beauty oil. The Double Cleansing Kit includes a small travel size of this multi-tasking oil that can be used for face, hair and body. I mix my Cleansing Milk with 1-2 drops of the Hydrating Essence and work that into the skin, massaging in upwards circular motions and focusing on congested areas. On colder nights or every time I exfoliate or use a face mask, I always make sure to provide my skin with an extra layer of hydration. The Hydrating Essence provides that boost. It is formulated to be used before or after your moisturizer. For maximum absorption definitely use before your moisturizer. If you use after your moisturizer, rub a few drops of the oil between your palms and press the palms onto the skin for a hydration booster.
The Hydrating Essence contains 8 essentials oils, all gentle, soothing and comforting on my sensitive skin: Acai Oil to heal and nourish, Argan Oil to fight free radical damage while soothing and hydrating, Kukui Oil to protect and heal skin exposed to sun, Grapeseed Oil to help diminish the effects of the sun’s damaging effects on the skin, Lavender Essential Oil to soothe and calm, Passion Flower Oil to relax and moisturize, Soybean Oil to help control and prevent the appearance of wrinkles and Borage Oil to reduce skin redness and inflammation.
Second Cleanse
The Kaplan MD Purifying Foam Cleanser is an extremely gentle, sulfate-free gel cleanser that thoroughly cleanses the skin without stripping it of essential moisture and disrupting the skin’s natural balance. Perfect for every skin type, this gentle cleanser is formulated with 22 Organic Extracts to soothe and nourish the skin, along with Panthenol to soothe/moisturize and the same potent concoction of plant stem cells found in the Hydrating Milk Cleanser. It also has extracts of Ginger Root, a powerful anti-oxidant, that helps combat free radicals and reduce inflammation. The gel-like texture is so easy to work with! Simply place a small amount into wet hands and work into a soft lather. Massage gently into the skin using upward, circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water, or remove by using one of the sponges included in the kit or a flannel/muslin cloth. The Purifying Cleanser feels so soothing on my sensitive complexion. Most importantly it doesn’t aggravate my sensitive skin or any blemishes.

Cat I’ve been double cleansing unknowingly really , this winter I’ve noticed that my skin has been irritable due to that . By reading your review I noticed that I haven’t been using products that balance each other out and keeping my face moisturized when double cleansing .
